Dolton Mayor Tiffany Henyard’s Financial Expenditures Shock Residents
Former Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot left residents dumbfounded after revealing the preliminary findings into an investigation in the alleged egregious misuse of funds by Dolton, Illinois Mayor Tiffany Henyard.
On Thursday night, Lightfoot revealed to residents the extent of Mayor Henyard’s alleged misuse. Lightfoot stated that in April 2022, Dolton’s general fund balance was $5.61 million.
By May 2024, the balance had dropped to a deficit of $3.65 million. The rapid decline raised eyebrows and sparked discontent in a community that relies heavily on its local government to manage resources responsibly.
“As of May 30 of this year, the village’s general fund was in a net deficit position,” Lightfoot said.

Lightfoot’s shocking disclosures revealed that Henyard had used village funds for personal purchases at major retailers like Amazon, Target, and Walgreens. One eyebrow-raising detail surfaced: the mayor reportedly spent $33,000 on Amazon on January 5, 2023 alone.
“These are somebody using the credit card and charging these amounts using your tax dollars,” Lightfoot told residents, fostering a sense of betrayal among those present.

As a “special investigator” hired by Dolton in April, Lightfoot uncovered deeper issues within the village’s law enforcement. The investigation unveiled a shocking misuse of taxpayer funds by police officers, who reportedly received overtime that eclipsed their salaries. One officer with an annual income of $87,295 received $114,800 in overtime pay for fiscal year 2024. Another officer, drawing a salary of $73,515, claimed $102,077 in overtime.

The community, home to just over 20,000 residents, now stands at a crossroads. “I am devastated that this woman came into our town and spent all of our tax money,” lamented a resident to FOX 32. “We have senior citizens that can’t even afford basic necessities. I suspected it all along.”
Others expressed an even stronger sentiment: “Tiffany needs to be locked up; she needs to be made an example out of,” said another resident, highlighting the emotional toll these revelations have taken on a town with its own economic challenges.

The findings come at a tumultuous time for Henyard, whose leadership has been criticized to the point where some have labeled her the “worst mayor in America.” The allegations of financial mismanagement have sparked an ongoing FBI investigation that hovers like a cloud over her administration.
Even more troubling, she faces scrutiny over an alleged sexual assault involving one of her associates during a Las Vegas trip—a disturbing situation complicated by claims of retaliation against the victim. Questions surrounding her cancer charity’s operations add yet another layer of controversy to her governance.
In moments like these, where trust is eroded and hope feels like a distant whisper, communities yearn for transparency and accountability. The outrageous expenditures and ongoing investigations not only weigh heavily on the minds of Dolton residents but also serve as a sobering reminder that leadership comes with immense responsibility. Residents crave the return of civility, stability, and a genuine commitment from their public officials.
