Post Malone Chooses Nashville Over LA: The Surprising Reason Behind His Decision

Post Malone prefers Nashville to L.A. because he finds the constant demands in Los Angeles overwhelming.

The acclaimed artist has shifted from his signature blend of rap and rock, embracing a vibrant country sound with his debut country album, “F-1 Trillion.” In Nashville, Tennessee, he’s found a welcoming community that nurtures his creativity far more than the bustling streets of L.A.

In a reflective chat with Kelleigh Bannon for Apple Music, Malone articulated his newfound joy in Music City. He stated, “It’s really nice meeting people in Nashville that made me feel so welcome and new friends and kind of building new stuff, and for once, I’m not sad anymore. I’m happy, very happy.”

He observed, “L.A. is L.A. and working here, I’ve always felt very distracted, and it’s nice to go to Nashville and really just meet people who are the best at what they do and who are super kind and super talented.” The hustle and bustle of L.A., often peppered with superficial encounters, contrasts with the authentic connections he’s forged in Nashville. It’s a city that exudes warmth and sincerity, where he can focus on what truly matters—his music.

Traditionally, Malone’s creative process unfolded in the studios of L.A., but for this album, he sought collaboration with country stars. He partnered with legends like Dolly Parton and Tim McGraw, as well as contemporary artists such as Morgan Wallen and Jelly Roll. This musical kinship invigorated his work, leading to fresh avenues in his artistry.

But it isn’t just the creative environment that appeals to him. Malone shared his thoughts on L.A., noting, “It’s always like someone wants something from you. And that’s something I didn’t see often in Nashville.” His experience in Nashville mirrors a refreshing simplicity—an openness that fosters collaboration instead of competition.

Excitement radiated from Malone as he recounted his creative sessions, stating, “I mean, I’m sure it’s somewhere; it’s just I think I found a group of really, really good folks… It was such a fresh thing going and watching this band and writing with new people, and I’m so f—ing pumped.”

Reflecting on his time in L.A., Malone admitted, “there’s always something to do, which isn’t bad, [but] it’s just not conducive to a work environment for me at least.” Becoming a parent has deepened his desire for a more balanced life. His 2-year-old daughter has shifted his priorities, steering him away from L.A.’s distracting nightlife. Instead, he craves moments spent jamming and creating music without the pull of incessant social obligations.

In a memorable conversation, Bannon recalled seeing him at Stagecoach in April—his first foray into the country festival scene. Malone beamed as he confirmed, “I was having the time of my life. I was happy.” Those moments affirm that his roots in Nashville are nurturing his happiness, with his daughter and fiancée standing at the heart of his newfound vitality.

“Four years ago, I was on a rough path,” he confided in a recent interview with CBS. Malone’s openness about his struggles revealed a deep sense of loneliness that accompanied his monumental success. He vividly recalled, “Gettin’ up, havin’ a good cry, drinkin,’ and then goin’ living your life.” Such raw honesty highlights his transformation into a more content individual, stating with relief, “And I don’t feel like that anymore. And it’s the most amazing thing.”

Ultimately, Malone’s journey through heartbreak and solitude has been humbling. He expressed the importance of self-discovery stating, “I needed to for myself, to figure who I am.” In Nashville, surrounded by authentic friendships and a supportive community, he is now building a life filled with purpose and joy.
