Leah Remini and Angelo Pagán are filing for divorce after 21 years of marriage.
In a heartfelt joint statement shared on social media, the former couple opened up about their decision and what led to this moment.
“Well, here we are. After 28 years together and 21 years of marriage, we have decided to file for divorce,” began their revealing Instagram post.
“This decision came after a lot of thought and care, and as hard as divorce is, we are approaching this with a positive outlook because we know it’s what’s best for us. We are proud of how we have worked through this together.”
Accompanying their statement was a nostalgic photo from the past, contrasted with a recent image, capturing their journey over the decades.
“This decision came after a lot of thought and care, and as hard as divorce is, we are approaching this with a positive outlook because we know it’s what’s best for us. We are proud of how we have worked through this together.”
“Yes, we’re sad, and we’ve got some figuring out to do as we continue to move forward into our new normal—together still in many ways, and apart in some new ones,” the post continued.
Although they cultivated a close friendship over their years together and still gather as a family, the couple candidly shared the reasons for their separation.
“To put it simply, we both changed, as people do, and we got used to playing roles that didn’t fit us anymore. After much thought and consideration, we’ve decided this step reflects who we are today,” they added.
“Our bond is still strong—it’s just evolved into something different. We believe a marriage that lasted this long and created so many beautiful memories, particularly in raising our incredible daughter, is indeed something to celebrate.”
Referring to their daughter, Sofia Bella, Remini and Pagán joyfully noted that she was born on June 16, 2004. Pagán also has three sons from a prior relationship, illustrating the blend of family that they cherish.
“From our perspective, this marriage was a huge success,” the statement continued. “And now, we’re looking forward to creating even more cherished moments—just in a different way.”
In their emotional message, Remini and Pagán expressed a desire for transparency, understanding that their union had long been observed by the public eye. Their lives together had even inspired a reality show, “Leah Remini: It’s All Relative,” which aired on TLC from 2014 to 2015, showcasing their unique experiences.
“We are sharing this unknown territory with you all as we step into this next stage of our lives publicly,” the couple stated.
Furthermore, they emphasized their wish that others in similar situations could see the diversity of relationship stories. They noted a key aspect of their journey: “It’s essential to have access to different kinds of relationship stories and feel less isolated when navigating the changes that millions of couples face each year.”
“We hope our journey can inspire new perspectives on relationships—showing that, regardless of change or conclusion, they are not failures. We will continue sharing snippets of our lives as we move into this new chapter. Love, Leah & Angelo,” the post concluded.
The bond between Remini and Pagán began in 1996 when they met at El Floridita, a popular Cuban club in Los Angeles, where Pagán performed. They tied the knot in 2003, forming a union that has since shaped their identities and lives.
This recent announcement coincided with news about another well-known couple, as longtime friend Jennifer Lopez also filed for divorce from Ben Affleck just a week prior.
Interestingly, Remini and Lopez had reconciled in May after a falling-out in 2022, providing an added layer to their relationship dynamic. Remini previously warned Lopez about Affleck’s commitment issues, reflecting on their shared history.
Notably, Remini was not present at Lopez and Affleck’s second wedding ceremony, underscoring the complexities woven into their life narratives. As Leah and Angelo step into this new chapter, they leave behind a legacy of love, friendship, and family—a profound reminder that even the strongest bonds can evolve.
