‘There’s some real opportunity’: Local musicians shine at Rock the Stage semi-finals, all for a good cause

The atmosphere was electric, with enthusiastic fans filling the seats, ready to support local talent. Ten semi-finalists took to the stage, their passion palpable. Each artist received constructive feedback from a panel of professional judges — a rare opportunity to refine their craft. It was a sight to behold, highlighting the ambitious spirit of musicians eager to grow.

Doug Harris, the owner of School of Rock and event coordinator, spoke about the essence of the competition. “This isn’t just about winning,” he remarked thoughtfully. “It’s about building a future for these artists.” His words resonate deeply, emphasizing the importance of nurturing creativity in a world where artistic expression can often be overshadowed.

In a heartfelt moment, a singer delicately played the piano, captivating the audience. “The winners of all three divisions receive invaluable prizes like studio time, coaching from School of Rock, and promotional support from a local graphic design firm. We’re also offering these bands a free gig each month for the coming year. Winning here means real opportunities for growth and visibility,” Harris detailed, allowing the audience to appreciate the tangible impact of this event on local artistry.

This year, the competition also stands in support of the Tabarrini Foundation, which raises funds to provide musical instruments and education for underprivileged children. Bob Tabarrini, founder of the foundation, passionately shared, “We’re raising money that serves dual purposes. Attendees get to experience the vibrant music scene of Southwest Florida while simultaneously ensuring that music continues to flourish for our youth.” His words inspire hope, as they remind everyone of the ripple effect that supporting the arts can create.

As the evening drew to a close, excitement lingered in the air. The three finalists are set to return to The Ranch Concert Hall on December 15th, prepared to compete for the coveted title. For these musicians, the journey ahead promises opportunities not only for success but also for forging connections within the vibrant local music community.
