Jane Seymour’s Empowering Message for Women: Embrace Your Age
Jane Seymour is an advocate for women embracing their age.
At The Hollywood Reporter’s Women in Entertainment Gala this past Wednesday, Seymour shared her compelling journey through six decades in the entertainment realm, celebrating how women today are finally “having their moment” in the world of television and film.
“Don’t take it for granted. It isn’t easy. The balance of how you come across and how you conduct yourself is huge, sadly,” Seymour expressed to People magazine, a reminder that authenticity remains paramount in an often fickle industry.
With a determined spirit, she continued, “But also, I’ve never given up. I now have my own series again, and I’m in my 70s. So I say to women, ‘Don’t give up and be authentic.’ Don’t pretend to be 20 when you’re 70. Be 70.” This profound message echoes the importance of self-acceptance, urging women to embrace their age rather than masking it.
There’s a sense of pride within Seymour as she reflects on the evolving roles for women in the industry. “It’s a great honor because I’ve been working in entertainment since I was 13,” she stated. “To see how women are really having their moment now and telling stories that normally wouldn’t have been shared is incredibly empowering.” The journey of these narratives serves to uplift all women, inviting them to own their stories with bravery.
Among those whose work has deeply resonated with Seymour is the talented Selena Gomez, who was awarded the Equity in Entertainment Award at the gala. “I just saw Selena’s movie last night,” she shared. “I was blown away by the incredible performances. There are so many amazing young actresses—she’s being honored for very good reason. To cross genres and do both is fantastic.” This acknowledgment highlights the interconnectedness of generations in artistry, fostering support across age groups.
As Seymour approaches her 70s, her ambitions remain unyielded. With her son Sean’s wedding on the horizon for 2025, and a new film beginning production in England this January, she embraces life with an open heart. “I’m enjoying my life. I have grandchildren, kids, and an amazing extended family. Right now, there’s so much joy,” she expressed.
This isn’t the first time Seymour has spoken on the topic of aging gracefully. Her wisdom resonates profoundly: “Try to be as healthy as you can because health is beauty. And try to be emotionally healthy as well.” Reflecting on her late mother’s life, she recalled, “She lived to be 92, radiantly beautiful, despite having endured so much. She gave her life to helping others.” These reflections illuminate the essence of beauty as an inner glow, forged through resilience and compassion.
Seymour’s belief in the profound impact of compassion and kindness is a philosophy that resonates today, in a world where kindness can often feel rare. “However bad something seems for you, you don’t have to look far to find someone much worse off,” she advises. “You can help just with a phone call or a cup of tea.” In these moments, it’s the simple gestures that often wield the most significant power to change lives.
