John Lennon’s son, Julian Lennon, has been diagnosed with cancer for the second time.
On Wednesday, Julian took to social media to reveal his diagnosis in a lengthy post on X, starting with a disclaimer: “Disturbing images…”
Julian Lennon Faces Second Health Battle
“Well, here’s how this goes… Before I flew to New York from Los Angeles, for Good Morning America, Sirius XM, iHeart Radio & My Fotografiska Q&A Book Signing Event, I went to see, as I usually do when in LA, my lovely dermatologist – Dr. Tess. She was the one who caught and operated on my mole/skin cancer a few years ago, and literally saved my life,” he wrote. “After finishing ‘GMA,’ I received a message from Dr. Tess, with some urgency to return to Los Angeles. I had two locations on my skin, one on my shoulder and one on my forearm, one of which was melanoma that needed to be operated on ASAP!”
A Race Against Time
“So instead of going home to put my Christmas tree up and happily finish the year off, I flew directly back to Los Angeles. After all my work in New York was completed, I went straight from LAX to surgery, with a surgeon recommended by Dr. Tess. The operation took several hours to clean up and excise the affected areas, with hopes for clear margins that would mean being free from cancer,” he continued.
Julian noted that while the operation was a success, the biopsy results are still pending. “We may not receive [the results] before Christmas,” he wrote, expressing gratitude to his medical team for their dedication and support.
He stressed the importance of cancer screening, saying, “This is a timely reminder for everyone to get themselves checked by a doctor. It only takes a short while, and it may just save your life. For the sake of yourself, your family, and friends, go to your doctor and do what must be done… I love life and I want to live for a long time. This is one choice that could determine your future.”
Reflection on Past Health Struggles
This isn’t the first time Julian has encountered a serious health scare. In 2020, the singer revealed he had emergency surgery after his doctor noticed a mole on his head that “looked and felt” different.
He recalled that experience on Facebook: “The trouble is… you think you have time… A few days ago, I visited my dermatologist in LA, who pointed out a bump on my head that was actually a mole I had lived with, along with a birthmark, for 57 years. Yet, this time, it looked and felt different.”
“She urged me to have a biopsy two days ago, which I agreed to. I learned, 24 hours later, that it was malignant/cancerous, and she recommended that it be removed immediately, which is precisely what happened,” he explained.
Emotional Journey through Health Challenges
“I cannot tell you how I felt, from one moment of joy to the fear of possibly losing everything at any time,” he added, a somber note echoing through his words. “I’m still shaking inside… But my faith is strong.”
This incident brings to light an important aspect of life that many overlook: the necessity of regular medical checks. While it is easy to dismiss our health in the hustle and bustle of daily life, the urgency in Julian’s story reminds us that awareness and preventive measures can change everything, often in a matter of moments. Just as one might change the brake pads on a beloved car to extend its life, so too can regular doctor visits keep our bodies in optimum condition, allowing us to enjoy our experiences and relationships to the fullest.
As Julian continues to face these challenges with courage, his story becomes a beacon of hope, emphasizing the resilience that lies in confronting life’s unpredictable moments head-on.
