Investigating the Tragic Death of Super Bowl Reporter in New Orleans
The suspect entangled in the Super Bowl reporter’s death, a so-called “career criminal,” is now believed by Kenner Police to be linked to a second fatality in New Orleans.
Adan Manzano, a 27-year-old Telemundo journalist from Kansas City, Missouri, journeyed to the vibrant streets of New Orleans to cover the Super Bowl. Tragically, he was discovered lifeless in his hotel room at the Comfort Suites in Kenner on February 5.
A Complex Story Unfolds
Danette Colbert, 45, known in local circles as the “Bourbon Street Hustler,” faces an array of serious accusations that include multiple fugitive and fraud charges, as well as robbery linked to Manzano’s shocking demise.
Police suspect that Colbert may have drugged Manzano, subsequently making off with his credit cards. The timeline reveals a brief and unsettling encounter. “They met in the French Quarter, probably in the early hours. They returned to the hotel around 4:30 a.m., and surveillance footage confirms this,” said Police Chief Conley.
“Colbert was seen leaving for about half an hour only to return and quickly exit again. The horrifying reality is that Manzano was never captured on video leaving his room again. She was undoubtedly the last person to have seen him,” Conley added.
The Tragic Echoes of a City’s Darker Side
As police delved deeper into the investigation, it was revealed that one of Manzano’s credit cards went missing while his room was being processed. Investigators swiftly obtained a search warrant, tracing the card’s usage to Colbert.
Colbert reportedly has a notorious history involving numerous male victims who fell prey to her schemes in Jefferson Parish and as far out as Las Vegas. “She weaves a deceptive web, drawing men into her confidence until they are incapacitated, leaving them to wake up without money or belongings,” Conley explained, his voice tinged with both disbelief and sadness.
Interestingly, Kenner Police have received numerous tips about Colbert, yet many victims hesitate to step forward, haunted by the shame tied to their experiences.
In a search of Colbert’s residence, authorities encountered a stolen firearm—not related to Manzano’s case—and narcotics. Potentially complicating matters, Colbert could face further charges as the investigation progresses, leaving many to wonder where this harrowing tale will ultimately lead.
In a statement reflecting on Manzano’s life, Telemundo 39 honored him as “a true professional and a rising star.” They expressed sorrow over his loss, emphasizing the passion he had for sports and the community he served.
Tragically, this incident adds another layer of grief to Manzano’s life story, as his wife, Ashleigh Boyd, died in a car accident the previous year in Kansas.
