Temporary Water Disruption Alert: What Lee County Residents Need to Know!

FORT MYERS, Fla. — A brief water outage is scheduled for Lee County residents on Wednesday, followed by a Boil Water Notice. This disruption comes as Lee County Utilities undertakes the crucial task of replacing a fire hydrant, an often unnoticed element of community infrastructure that plays a vital role in public safety.

The water service interruption will commence at 9 a.m. and affect the southern region of Fort Myers along McGregor Boulevard, stretching from Port Comfort Road to the Sanibel Toll Plaza. For many locals, their daily routines hinge on access to clean water, making news of this outage a significant detail not to be overlooked.

This notice will encompass Punta Rassa Road, Harbour Pointe Drive, the Punta Rassa boat ramp, and the Sanibel Toll Plaza. An estimated 420 residences and 15 commercial businesses, perhaps including familiar spots like the Lazy Flamingo and the Island Cow, will experience water service suspension until roughly 3 p.m.

Once the water is restored, a Boil Water Notice will go into effect. Residents will be advised to boil water at a rolling boil for one minute before using it for drinking, cooking, or even brushing their teeth. The notice is anticipated to be lifted over the following weekend, but until then, many will be reminded of the conveniences they often take for granted.

Affected areas include:

  • Port Comfort Road
  • Palm Drive
  • Jonathan Harbour Drive
  • Tidewater Lane
  • Marina Cove Lane
  • McGregor Boulevard from Port Comfort Road to Sanibel Toll Plaza, including the plaza
  • Punta Rassa Road
  • Harbour Pointe Drive, including Punta Rassa Boat Ramp

For many, the morning cup of coffee brewed with boiling water will evoke reflections on the small yet essential elements of daily life. In the hustle and bustle of schedules, it’s these brief interruptions that can make one pause— to appreciate simple luxuries, like running water. The sight of bubbling water on the stove can become a moment of mindfulness amidst the day’s demands.

Residents are encouraged to stay updated via local media and the county’s official website, www.leegov.com, along with their active Facebook page. The county will provide timely updates, including notification when the Boil Water Notice is lifted. As this small inconvenience unfolds, perhaps it will serve as a gentle reminder that even the most routine aspects of life deserve appreciation.
