Cape Coral Animal Shelter works with Hope Hospice to care for animals with terminally ill owners

CAPE CORAL, Florida – The Cape Coral Animal Shelter is partnering with Hope Hospice to take current hospice patient services one step further.

The aim of the program is to find animals that had to be given up in the event of death.

Hope Hospice created the Hope for Pets program to alleviate these worries and reassure the people in their care that their pets have veterinary visits, exercise and, if necessary, a new, loving home.

Finding a home for pets can also be a burden for family members when a loved one unexpectedly walks into the hospice and they are desperate to find a home for the pet.
The program helps the animal to stay in the patient’s house until the patient is no longer able to take care of the animal.

During this time, CCAS takes over the medical care of the animal, the transport to and from the patient’s home for visits to the vet, and supplies food / supplies if necessary.

When the Hope Hospice patient enters a hospice facility, CCAS will place the pet in a foster home until the patient dies.
