Charlotte County man dies in head-on crash that killed two

HIGHLANDS COUNTY, Fla. – Two men died in a crash on State Road 70 near County Road 721 Monday afternoon.

Around 2:10 p.m. A 65-year-old Melbourne woman driving an SUV tried to pass slower traffic on State Road 70 when she crashed into a sedan driven by a 72-year-old Rotunda West woman heading in the opposite direction, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The passengers in both cars including a 68-year-old Melbourne man and a 68-year-old Rotunda West man died in the crash, troopers said.

Both drivers are in critical condition.
