Chiquita Lock down due to mechanical failure

Cape Coral suggests a rental fee

CAPE CORAL, Fla. – Cape Coral officials said the Chiquita Lock is down because of a mechanical failure.

The lock doors will be open and boaters may pass at their own risk, according to the city.

Boaters are asked to use the red light/green light function when transmitting. City officials said this is to determine when it’s your turn to go through.

There won’t be an operator after 10 p.m.

The City of Cape Coral said crews are working to determine the cause of the failure.
