The FGCU women’s golf team has set its sights on clinching a remarkable three consecutive tournament titles this season.
With a surge of talent and determination, the Eagles recently celebrated back-to-back victories in both team and individual categories, a feat that has sparked a contagious excitement within their ranks.
This achievement has propelled the FGCU women’s golf program to a commendable 32nd place in the NCAA rankings, marking their highest positioning during a non-COVID year.
The competitive spirit is palpable this season. Freshmen have arrived, ready to make their mark, while returning athletes have sharpened their skills over the summer, adding to the dynamic of the team.
Their impressive ranking follows triumphs at the Johnnie Imes Invitational and the Pat Bradley Invitational, both of which showcased their skill and tenacity.
“We were all so excited! We’re like, ‘What’s going on?’ but, I mean, we knew we could do it. It was just a matter of time,” said Amelie Alcantara, a junior golfer, who reflects the enthusiasm that envelops the squad.
Alcantara secured the title at the Johnnie Imes and tied for third at the Pat Bradley, reaching a noteworthy 54th in national rankings and becoming the sole Atlantic Sun golfer in the top 150.
“I feel like our confidence has grown this year. Winning the first tournament was just the boost we needed, and knowing we could replicate that success made all the difference,” Alcantara added thoughtfully.
In this ongoing narrative of success, teammate Lousiane Gauthier also shone brightly, clinching first place at the Pat Bradley Invitational.
“When the team is cohesive, the joy of playing golf multiplies. Each swing feels lighter; every moment shared on the course is a treasure. It’s incredible how everything just clicks into place,” Gauthier shared with a warm smile.
With four trophies already in hand, the Eagles are gearing up for their next challenge at the Diamante Intercollegiate in Arkansas this weekend.
Aiming for a three-peat, the FGCU women’s golf team stands poised to surpass in-state rival UCF and challenge several powerhouse schools.
