Former Naples star DB Devin Moore is gearing up for his junior season with the Florida Gators. Injuries have shadowed Moore’s early college career, with a particularly painful season-ending injury as a freshman. Yet, amid setbacks, he has learned invaluable lessons. “In every hardship, I believe you can find positives,” Moore explains. He cites the time spent observing rather than playing as a chance to absorb insights from others on the field. Every game became a classroom; every stance, a lesson in resilience.
The impending 2024 season has shifted Moore’s focus toward diligence and preparation. “During the offseason, I dedicated myself to prehab,” he states. Countless hours were spent in local gyms, such as the Naples Fitness Club, focusing on strength and flexibility to secure a spot in the lineup. He hopes to transform that toil into performance when the Gators face the No. 19 Miami Hurricanes in the electrifying atmosphere of the Swamp.
A Sense of Belonging and Commitment to Community
Recruited from Naples High School, Moore’s decision to join the Gators was not one made lightly. “I always wanted to play for my home state,” he reflects, revealing a desire to stay close to family. Friends and family can now easily support him in the stands. Moore recalls how important it was that his parents could cheer him on from the bleachers, fostering cherished memories of every touchdown and tackle.
Joining head coach Billy Napier’s inaugural recruiting class in 2022 brought Moore into a program undergoing transformation. “I felt a genuine connection with him,” he recalls, speaking to the trust and vision shared between them. Observations from his time on campus reveal a program steeped in camaraderie. “Year after year, more guys are buying in, influencing each other,” he notes.
