Fort Myers Mayor Announces Tent City Committee Members

FORT MYERS, Florida – Lions Park has been transformed into Tent City at US-41 in Fort Myers.

A growing number of homeless people have been calling the park home for months, and many believe they have no other choice.

“People don’t want us around, they think we’re like subhumans, but we’re all human. We’re all just trying to live, ”said Rosemary Fattaruso, who has been living in Lions Park for a month and a half.

Although it was difficult for Fattaruso, she is grateful for the place she calls “home”.

“The people were great, they were wonderful, they were phenomenal,” said Fattaruso. “You are so great. Yesterday we had 50 cars with blankets, pillows, clothes, everything! “

Today, more community members helped Tent City, including Fort Myers Native, Cindy Granger. Her reason for handing out blankets and warm clothes tonight was simple:

“I just know that it will be cold tonight and these people have no money, they are hungry. They need food, they need shelter, so I’m trying to do something to help them, ”Granger said.

The Mayor of Fort Myers will announce the names of the committee members who will work on a solution in Lions Park.

Rely on NBC2 for the latest information on Tent City and the Mayor’s Naming Committee members.
