Golf Cart Incident at New Jersey Police Event Injures Five
A drunken driving simulation got too real for some attendees at a New Jersey police event.
A golf cart used to show the dangers of impaired driving went out of control at a National Night Out community event at Fox Park in the Jersey Shore town of Wildwood and struck five people, who were all hospitalized, authorities said Wednesday.
A golf cart, piloted by a teenager alongside a police officer, veered away from its designated course, surrounded by orange cones, leading to alarming consequences.

The Fallout of an Unforeseen Incident
Four adults and a child were struck during the demonstration. Wildwood firefighters, who were present for the event, acted swiftly to treat the injured on-site. Updates regarding the victims’ injuries have not been disclosed.
Following the incident, the five individuals were promptly transported to Cape Regional Medical Center. As of Wednesday, three had been treated and released, but two remained hospitalized.

A Community’s Response
The Wildwood Police Department expressed their sorrow in a Facebook post. “This tragic incident is disconcerting to the entire City of Wildwood Police Department, and we would like to offer our sincere thoughts and prayers to the injured individuals,” the department’s statement read.
This annual event is designed to foster closer ties between law enforcement and the community. The low-speed golf cart course, implemented as a tool for simulating the dangers of impaired driving, has been a staple of the event for twenty years, serving as an eye-opener to many.
The accident remains under investigation, prompting reflections on the delicate balance between education and safety during community outreach efforts.
Witnessing such an incident can be unsettling. A moment meant to educate about the perils of impaired driving turned into a somber reminder of life’s unpredictability. For those affected, it becomes not just a lessons learned but also a test of resilience in facing the unexpected. While the intent behind the demonstration was undoubtedly noble, the troubling reality is that education can sometimes take a backseat to safety. Let’s hope that moving forward, these experiences lead to not just awareness but enhanced precaution in similar events.
