Jason Aldean says Donald Trump’s presidency marks a new “era” for politics.
Aldean, the country music singer, is scheduled to perform at the Liberty Ball following Trump’s inauguration. He expressed his excitement for what he calls a “big day for our country.”
“The last few years have been… kind of really divisive and just a lot of stuff going on, and I just hope this is kind of the beginning of a new era for our country and kind of get back on track,” the artist reflected during his interview on “CBS Mornings.”
“I think the thing with President Trump is, I think he wants to do great things for the American people and the country. And he’s a guy that I feel like when he says something, he tries to get it done.”
Aldean revealed his concerns about the current state of the nation, particularly from the perspective of a father. Nevertheless, he admires Trump’s ambition and believes he has the potential to accomplish great things in this new chapter.
“I think the thing with President Trump is, I think he wants to do great things for the American people and the country,” Aldean stated. “And he’s a guy that I feel like when he says something, he tries to get it done.” He continued, “He’s not just telling you. You know, I feel like a lot of times politicians will just tell you things — just to make it sound good. And I feel like he’s a guy that actually wants to go get it done.”
While Aldean’s previous public stance on politics has been more reserved, he has openly supported Trump in recent years. He appreciates the fact that Trump communicates in a straightforward manner, devoid of typical political jargon.
“He wasn’t that guy. He was a guy that kind of spoke my language and just kind of… put it in layman’s terms for me a little bit,” he shared on the morning program.
Looking back eight years, Trump faced challenges in attracting celebrities for his swearing-in ceremony and the associated lavish balls. Unlike Trump, Barack Obama saw performances from a multitude of renowned artists, including Beyoncé and Kelly Clarkson, during his inaugurations.
Trump’s first inauguration in 2017 featured an array of performances, including the Rockettes and the Mormon Tabernacle Choir, as well as a young singing sensation from “America’s Got Talent,” Jackie Evancho.
Aldean advocates for candid self-expression. He faced scrutiny after the release of his song “Try That in a Small Town,” which some considered pro-violence due to its music video depicting riots and acts against the American flag. Yet, it resonated strongly with his fanbase.
“Try That In a Small Town,” like every other record he produced, serves as an outlet for his feelings. He emphasized, “I can’t go grab my phone, go on Instagram and go off on an almost 30-minute rant about how I feel about all these things,” he expressed. “It’s like I do that through music, and that’s what it is, and obviously it’s struck a chord out there with a lot of people that felt the same way and the song did well.”
