Jennifer Garner Pens Heartfelt Tribute to Beloved Dog Birdie
Jennifer Garner and her family are mourning the loss of their beloved dog, Birdie.
Garner shared a post dedicated to the dog on Instagram Wednesday, sharing a touching tribute to the family pet.
“It seems nuts, given the world, to mourn a pet, but since we have shared Birdie with all of you, it only seems fair to let you know of her passing,” the star of “Deadpool & Wolverine” expressed poignantly.
“Birdie let us know on Thursday that she wasn’t feeling herself (a renowned foodie, Birdie never missed a meal). We were surprised to learn that, not only was she very ill, she was at the end of her life,” Garner continued, revealing the heart-wrenching truth of their last days together.
As a wise vet once said, “Dogs often hang on until their person comes home from college.” Garner reflected, believing Birdie, with her gentle and steadfast soul, waited just for that moment. “We could pet her soft ears together and thank her for being the world’s best dog,” she said, a bittersweet nod to her oldest child, Violet Affleck.
Birdie was more than a pet; she was a cherished member of the family. Garner fondly recalled how Birdie loved to be read to, always sneaking into “Pretend Cooking Show,” an Instagram series the actress ran, showcasing her culinary skills and playful food creations.
“She lived a happy dog life and is now in the role she was born to play: angel girl. It’s a gift to love and be loved by such a creature as Birdie the Doggie,” the “Alias” star concluded, encapsulating the bond they shared with deep emotion.
Earlier this year, the duo made an appearance on the YouTube channel WeRateDogs, celebrating Birdie’s ninth birthday. The episode highlighted Birdie’s work as a therapy dog at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles, where she brought comfort to children in need. “She wants to read some new books for kids. And speaking of kids, Birdie is a therapy dog,” Garner noted with pride, expressing the dog’s ambitions before her ninth birthday.
The journey to bring Birdie into their home was deeply personal. Garner shared a poignant memory of her daughter Violet, who, at the tender age of two, declared her desire for a dog. Garner had nonchalantly suggested waiting until Violet turned ten, thinking the request would fade with time. Yet, the years passed, and Birdie joined their family, proving that the heart remembers what it wants.
In the wake of her passing, condolences poured in from Garner’s famous friends, underscoring Birdie’s impact beyond the family.
“Oh Jen…I’m so sorry. Sending so much love,” Jennifer Aniston wrote, her response resonating with shared grief among friends.
Ina Garten, a close friend and chef, expressed her sorrow, stating, “Oh Jennifer, I’m heartbroken for you!!! She was the best buddy and always up for an adventure with all of you. Sending my love to you and the kids. I’m so glad they’re home with you now. Birdie will be eating turkey in heaven.”
Rita Wilson echoed the sentiment, saying, “So so sorry!!!! They’re family,” accompanying her message with a broken heart emoji, emphasizing the profound love pets bring into our lives.
In moments like these, the bond between humans and their pets reminds us that love, in all its forms, transcends grief. While Birdie’s physical presence may be gone, her spirit remains—woven into the fabric of Jennifer Garner’s family tapestry, where cherished memories and love live on.
