Lighthouse of SWFL will host its 11th annual Dining in the Dark, a unique sensory experience, at 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 23.
Dining in the Dark gives guests a first-hand glimpse into the challenges of living with blindness or low vision while raising much-needed funds to achieve Lighthouse’s mission of guiding people to independence.
The 2021 Dining in the Dark event will be held virtually using the Remo Virtual Platform for an interactive dining experience. An online auction with gift packages will be held in conjunction with the event.
Tickets can be purchased online. On Sept. 23, guests will arrive at their pre-scheduled Outback Steakhouse location where they will receive a package with a meal including dessert and a blindfold at the Outback Steakhouse curbside pickup.
Guests will dine in the dark when they arrive home and log into the event using the Remo Virtual Platform. Lighthouse of SWFL team members will provide live instruction to guide guests through donning the blindfold and using the techniques taught by certified vision rehabilitation instructors to help them enjoy their food and beverage without vision.
Once guests have enjoyed the sensory experience of dining, they will hear about Lighthouse of Southwest Florida’s impact on the community, including powerful testimonials.
The online auction offered in conjunction with Dining in the Dark will open at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 22, and end at 6 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 25. Participants will have the opportunity to check their bids throughout this time period. All proceeds benefit the Lighthouse mission-driven programs for people of all ages with low vision and blindness.
Lighthouse of SWFL presents Dining in the Dark in collaboration with Outback Steakhouse and event sponsors Gorovoy M. D. Eye Specialist, Southwest Florida Optometric Association, Juniper Landscaping, Bob and Reina Schlager, O’Donnell Landscapes Inc., TriCircle Pavers Inc., Crews Environmental, CRS Technology Consultants, Right at Home, Motto Mortgage Infinity and Scott White Advisors LLC.
