Brian May Shares Positive Health Update After Recent Stroke

Brian May is in good spirits after suffering a minor stroke last week.

The Queen guitarist took to Instagram to provide a health update and detailed his hospitalization.

A Three-Chord Symphony of Resilience

“I’m here to bring you first of all some good news — the good news is that I can play guitar after the events of the last few days,” May shared with fans on social media.

Reflecting on the incident, he recalled, “That little health hiccup that I mentioned happened about a week ago and what they called it was a minor stroke. All of a sudden—out of the blue—I didn’t have any control over this arm, so it was a little scary.” A moment of silence ensued, reminding listeners of life’s fragile nature.

The Power of Community and Care

In a heartfelt display, May moved his left arm, demonstrating to his fans that he is regaining control and strength. The musician, now 77, expressed immense gratitude for the “fantastic care and attention” from the healthcare professionals at Frimley Hospital in Surrey, England. It is a small town suffused with a spirit of compassion, thriving on the unyielding dedication of its medical practitioners.

He reminisced about the flashing blue lights, likening it to a scene straight out of a rock star’s life, yet tinged with genuine concern: “Very exciting!” he chuckled, reminding fans of his indomitable spirit.

Despite his hospitalization, May chose not to disclose his health condition immediately, wanting to shield his fans from unnecessary worry. “I didn’t want to say anything at the time because I didn’t want anything surrounding, you know. I really don’t want sympathy.”

With a flicker of humor, he remarked, “Please don’t do that because it’ll clutter up my inbox, and I hate that.” Instead, he finds comfort in the familiar chords of his guitar, “The good news is I’m OK. Just doing what I’m told, which is basically nothing. I’m grounded.”

May shared a light-hearted list of activities his doctors advised against, including driving, flying, and anything that might elevate his heart rate too much. Moments like these underscore the balance of humor and reality, creating a tapestry of life lessons woven through personal trials.

His recent health scare comes on the heels of a heart attack he experienced in May 2020, when doctors discovered three arteries congested and “in danger of blocking the supply of blood to my heart.” Thankfully, he opted for three stents, an act of foresight that, looking back, could have saved his life.

Brian May’s journey highlights a poignant reminder of the importance of monitoring one’s health. Without the angiogram, he mused, “I could have died.” It’s not just the music that resonates with fans, but also his very human experience of vulnerability and resilience.

In the end, he stands not just as a maestro of guitar strings but also as a symbol of hope, showing that passion doesn’t diminish with age, nor does the will to overcome the barriers life throws our way.
