Richard Gere and His Family Flourish in Spain
Richard Gere and his family are embracing life in Spain.
Last year, the beloved actor known for “Pretty Woman,” along with his wife Alejandra Silva and their children, made a significant transition to her homeland, and Gere reflects on their newfound happiness.
“The truth is that you are seeing us in our momentum,” the 75-year-old shared with Elle España about their relocation. “We are happier than ever. She is at home and I find joy in her happiness.”
Silva, 41, describes their bond as that of “soulmates,” illustrating a profound connection.
“The truth is that you are seeing us in our momentum. We are happier than ever. She, because she is home and I because, if she is happy, I am happy.”
A Journey of Soulmates
Richard and Alejandra first crossed paths eleven years ago during challenging times in their personal lives. Their shared experiences formed a unique bond. Silva reflected, “We are like soulmates. Our values are aligned, and we’ve seen the world through similar lenses. From the first moment, it was as though we had known each other for ages.”
Commitment to Community and Sustainability
Currently, they are involved in the Sierra a Mar project, which champions environmental sustainability along the scenic coastline of Jalisco, Mexico. Silva passionately noted, “Giving opportunities to the community allows them to rediscover themselves and thrive.”
Adding to their mission, Gere expressed, “Our aim is to care for the environment, from the mountains to the sea, restoring ecosystems and the oceans. True sustainability isn’t just about our surroundings, but also the lives that inhabit them.”
He admires his wife, noting, “My wife radiates a unique blend of openness, gratitude, and generosity.” They have two sons together and a child from Silva’s previous marriage. Gere has a 24-year-old son from his earlier marriage to Carey Lowell.
Silva mentioned their shared activism as a core aspect of their relationship. “What binds us deeply, what fueled our love, is our heart for activism. It’s about providing a voice for the voiceless and raising awareness in meaningful ways.”
Contributing to Local Causes
Their commitment extends to local charity work in Spain, which Silva highlighted as a motivating factor behind their move to Madrid. “We aim to help end homelessness in this beautiful country. Our ambition is for everyone to have a home within five years,” she stated.
Gere shared his excitement about their new life in Spain last spring, reflecting, “Living in Madrid is a grand adventure for me, as I’ve never resided outside the United States full-time.” He recognizes how this change would be enriching for their children, allowing them to immerse in Alejandra’s culture, family, and friendships. It seems fair, he added, as she embraced his world for so long.
Gere explained, “New York is always in your blood. It shapes who you are. Yet, Spain fills me with joy. The people here possess an innate ability to enjoy life, laughter, and friendship. I can’t wait to experience this culture that embodies such warmth.”
November brought some festive cheer when he told Jimmy Fallon that his children were prepared to flourish in Spain. “They are bilingual and should thrive,” he remarked on “The Tonight Show.” He proudly shared a snapshot of their sons, Alexander, 5, and James, 4, decorating their Christmas tree with the caption, “Finally, Christmas in Spain!”
Gere remarked on Alejandra’s deep-rooted family ties, reminiscing about her grandmother’s love and influence. “She was the heart of their family dynamic. Now, I can see Alejandra stepping into that role, planning large family gatherings and Sunday lunches for 35 people.”
