In the vibrant landscape of Charlotte County, Myron Charles, a formidable four-star defensive tackle from Port Charlotte, has committed to the Texas Longhorns. The thrill of joining a powerhouse resonates deeply with him.
“I’m coming in with a lot of dogs that contributed a lot this year and next year I get to play with them,” Charles expressed, his enthusiasm palpable. “I’m excited.”
During his senior season, he tallied 43 tackles, showcasing his formidable presence on the field with eight tackles for loss. Standing tall at 6’4”, the allure of Division I football was undeniable. Initially committed to Florida State, the relentless pursuit by UT Austin captivated him. His decision to say ‘Hook Em’ became a heartfelt commitment.
“Coach Kenny reached out regularly, even when I was still committed to FSU. The daily texts were more than just recruiting,” Charles reflected. “They were reaching out to my family, making us feel valued.”
Meanwhile, Cape Coral’s Darrion Jones, a determined safety, is set to trade his Seahawks jersey for the crimson of the Kansas Jayhawks. His journey has been fraught with challenges, yet that only fueled his resolve.
“Coming up, I dealt with being called overrated. That pushed me to work harder,” Jones admitted, a testament to his resilience. In his two seasons with the Seahawks, he notched 62 total tackles, averaging four per game, with 22 solo tackles in his senior season.
The distance between Cape Coral and Lawrence—approximately 1,400 miles—doesn’t daunt him. “My support system has been unwavering throughout,” he reassured. “I know when it’s time, they’ll be there.”
Two notable athletes from First Baptist Academy are taking their talent to the Division I level. Bradley Martino, a noteworthy three-star prospect, is bound for the University of Minnesota’s Golden Gophers. His excitement is infectious.
“Seventeen years in the making,” Martino said, reminiscing about his long-held dream. “Back in my freshman year at Palmetto, when my coaches were fired, I almost stepped away from the game. But I pushed through because giving up on my dream wasn’t an option.”
Since June, Martino has felt a sense of belonging within the Golden Gophers program. “Florida feels like home, but I find Minnesota to be a second home. Coach Fleck’s intensity inspires me; he believes in my abilities,” Martino shared, a hint of optimism shining through.
Logan Bartley, another three-star safety from First Baptist Academy, is excited to don the blue and purple of the Kansas State Wildcats. The environment and his position coach drew him in undeniably.
“It’s surreal to see my hard work pay off,” Bartley remarked. “From my first day at First Baptist, this dream began to take shape. Now, it’s time to turn the page and establish my presence at K State.”
Completing First Baptist’s roster of signees is Devin Imburgia, who has signed to participate in Division III football at Franklin & Marshall. Each step holds significance, intertwining the personal journeys of these athletes.
From East Lee County, promising running back Lazaro Rogers is set to bring his skills to Northern Illinois. With an impressive record of over 4,400 rushing yards and 46 touchdowns, averaging 134.5 yards per game, Rogers has left an indelible mark.
Celebrating at Dave and Busters, surrounded by loved ones, Rogers expressed gratitude towards his family, coaches, and teachers. “They have shaped me, both as a player and a person,” he reflected. “I’ve learned to grow up, be a leader, and contribute back to my community.”
