FORT MYERS, Florida – A new Marriott hotel is scheduled to open in downtown Fort Myers next year.
The new hotel will have 100 rooms, a restaurant and a rooftop bar.
Mayor Kevin Anderson says it will bring many visitors and new jobs to the area.
“Anytime development is talked about, especially development that involves job creation,” he said, “it’s a good thing.”
Construction is scheduled to begin this year and be completed next fall.
“There are other issues to think about here in Fort Myers,” said local resident Alanna Dukas, “how the homeless here might need help.”
Some are also concerned about traffic during construction that could start later this year.
“It just seems like you have to plan or think a little more,” continued Dukas, “especially here in the city center.”
Anderson says there are more downtown hotels planned. He hopes they will continue to open up new growth opportunities.
