Sibling Rivalry: A Stabbing Incident from Tori Spelling’s Childhood
Tori Spelling once attempted to stab her younger brother with a letter opener during their childhood.
On a recent episode of the “misSPELLING” podcast, Tori had her brother Randy as a special guest. Together, they shared a fascinating glimpse into their tumultuous upbringing, highlighting moments that many can find relatable.
Tori remarked, “From an outside perspective, people might think our childhood was anything but ordinary. However, we experienced the very essence of sibling relationships, complete with its fair share of fights and laughter.” A particularly memorable moment for Tori revolved around an attempted stabbing. “There was that one time I tried to stab you,” she confessed, laughter punctuating a previously tense memory.
In a playful yet revealing exchange, Tori admitted to choosing between “a letter opener and a rock” for her weapon of choice. Randy, reflecting on the incident, recalled how Tori often lashed out in frustration. Recalling their ages at the time, they estimated Tori was around fourteen while Randy was eight or nine. At this point, she had just transitioned to a new school, leaning heavily on nightly phone calls to friends for support and comfort.
“We still had the sibling relationship, and we still had the fights, the fun times, all of it. There was the time I tried to stab you.”
“You were always at the door,” Tori exclaimed, directing her energy towards her brother, “listening in on every conversation!”
“I just wanted attention. That’s so sad,” Randy replied, a hint of self-reflection evident in his tone.
Eventually, Randy managed to drive Tori “insanely crazy,” prompting her to react. In a vivid recollection, she recounted, “I burst through the door, grabbed my crystal King Arthur sword from the stone, and charged at you with my letter opener.” Her tone was light, but the underlying tension of that moment was palpable.

Despite the gravity of the memory, Tori reassured her brother, admitting, “I wasn’t really going to stab you,” yet Randy couldn’t shake off the haunting image of Tori’s expression that night. This memory was just one of a few intense moments, Tori goes on to share that she had unleashed that level of anger very recently, during a confrontation with her ex-husband, Dean McDermott.

“The last full-blown fight Dean and I had,” she recalled, “I smashed my baked potato across the kitchen with what felt like superhuman strength.” This moment highlighted the stress and emotional strain surrounding their breakup. Tori filed for divorce on March 29, 2023, marking June 17 as the date of separation, underscoring the complexities of relationships and family challenges. The couple, sharing five children, complicated the divorce, as Tori sought full custody while also ensuring joint legal custody was in place.

When Tori and Dean met on the set of “Mind Over Matter” in July 2005, they were both married to other people, ultimately leading to a whirlwind romance that saw both parties divorced and remarried by May 2006. This juxtaposition of love and conflict, nostalgia and anger, illustrates the complexities of family life against the backdrop of Hollywood’s bright lights. A fascinating trivia nugget reveals that Tori Spelling comes from a lineage of remarkable individuals; her father, Aaron Spelling, was one of the most successful television producers in history.
