Virginia Amusement Park Set to Debut Record-Breaking Launched Wing Roller Coaster!

The Virginia amusement park is set to debut the “world’s tallest and longest launched wing coaster,” titled Rapterra, which will open next year, according to an announcement from Kings Dominion.

“We are excited to unveil Rapterra, the must-do ride of 2025, at Kings Dominion… This extraordinary addition promises new thrills for our guests, making it the perfect centerpiece for our 50th anniversary celebration,” shared Bridgette Bywater, the vice president and general manager of Kings Dominion, in a recent press release.

Standing at an impressive height of 145 feet and spanning a length of 3,086 feet, the Rapterra is designed to catapult thrill-seekers from 0 to 65 mph in a striking four seconds.

The ride promises an exhilarating experience. Riders will feel the adrenaline surge as they drop into a dive loop, followed by a whirlwind of heart-pounding aerial maneuvers. These include an S-turn, a wing side, a flat spin, an airtime hill, and a captivating 360-degree raptor roll. In total, a ride on Rapterra lasts for three exhilarating 89-second intervals before smoothly returning to the station.

A visually striking video concept released by Kings Dominion displays the ride’s innovative winged design. This design positions riders on either side of the track, creating a sensation of flying. Supporting gray columns and vibrant green tracks accentuate the coaster’s twists and turns, making it a centerpiece of engineering and amusement.
