In case you haven’t heard, the city of Cape Coral—known to locals as “The Cape”—is exploding these days. A restaurant renaissance started a few years ago, and, most recently, the Westin Cape Coral Resort at Marina Village underwent $15 million renovation, shining a spotlight on Lee County’s biggest metropolis. With all the growth and good news, it’s an ideal time to plan a day trip or staycation to Cape Coral—complete with a meal (or several) at these top-tier restaurants.
Fathoms Restaurant & Bar
In Cape Harbour, a luxury marina development, this restaurant with sleek, sea-inspired décor offers indoor and outdoor seating overlooking gasp-worthy yachts. Handcrafted pizza headlines the extensive lunch-and-dinner menu, which also includes plates like Korean-barbecue-style ribs, Caribbean jerk shrimp and firecracker calamari.
From the same owners at Fathoms, Gather is among the shops at the Westin fronting a marina. The space feels warm and welcoming with comfortable tables, sofas, shelves of books, and an outdoor deck. The menu offers a modern take on American and Mediterranean cuisines, including lamb meatloaf and home-made pasta.
Jungle Bird Authentic Tiki
Jungle Bird expresses Florida themes in a tropical vein. The courtyard garden is surrounded by indoor dining areas with a touch whimsy, fitting its mission to create an updated 60s-style tiki bar. The cocktails are remastered versions tiki classics like the Mai Tai or its namesake rum concoction. Simple, made-from-scratch dishes such as coconut-chorizo flatbread or Asian-inspired seafood and meat dishes are part of the bar’s menu.
Marker 92 Waterfront Bar & Bistro/Nauti-Mermaid Dockside Bar & Grill
During a staycation at the Westin’s gorgeous harbor property, you need only to jump on the elevator to get its waterfront dining options. The flagship restaurant, elegant Marker 92, and its alfresco harborside companion, Nauti-Mermaid, have reinvented their menus to celebrate the resort’s recent renovations. The focus is on local ingredients like the succulent Sanibel pink Shrimp.
Point 57 Kitchen & Cocktails
The craft cocktails and comfort food made this an instant hit when it opened a few years ago on busy Del Prado Blvd. Point 57’s reputation for outstanding service and delicious food has been maintained by its excellent staff. Order signatures like the Owl Be Damned cocktail, crispy pork shank, and cioppino from the dominant bar. The patio seating is covered in summer and is air-conditioned. However, most people choose the cool, airy dining room.
Cape Coral slides into Big Easy mode at this hidden gem. Live jazz sets up the stage for authentic crab and-corn beignets as well as gumbo, crawfish stewee, and Cajun bouillabaisse. Sunday brunch is a hit; the Champagne benedict, which includes goat cheese, spinach and tomato, on a croissant, is a popular choice. You can wash it down with a traditional brandymilk punch.
