The Future of Disney’s Star Wars Hotel: A New Chapter Emerges
The building that formerly housed the “Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser” at Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida, will be repurposed as office space, the company confirmed to local Orlando media.
Reports began swirling at the end of January that the building for the shuttered hotel would get new life as an office space, multiple sources reported.
The Transformation Journey
Disney disclosed to WESH 2, an Orlando outlet, that its “Imagineering” department would soon call this space home. This transition has been carefully planned since October, although specifics regarding the start of renovations or employee relocations remain uncertain.
The “Walt Disney Imagineering” group is the creative force behind all Disney parks, resorts, attractions, and cruise ships worldwide; they steer the artistic direction of Disney games, merchandise, and publishing. Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser provided an immersive, two-night experience, akin to a cruise where guests found themselves enveloped in a tale unfolding around them. This 100-room hotel finally opened its doors in March 2022, albeit with several delays. Yet, the magic was short-lived; in May 2023, Disney revealed that the Starcruiser would embark on its final journey by the end of September.

The Galactic Starcruiser was revered for its immersive storytelling and unique experience, though it struggled with its pricing structure, leaving mixed impressions among fans. Rates for a two-person “cabin” started at nearly $5,000, and a four-person cabin ran approximately $6,000. Alongside lodging, guests enjoyed meals, entertainment, and an “excursion” to Disney’s Hollywood Studios.
Although the closure sparked disappointment among Star Wars aficionados, there was a glimmer of hope that the site could still offer some form of attraction. In a June 2023 interview with The Points Guy, Disney Experiences chairman Josh D’Amaro hinted that “something will happen” with the building, yet remained tight-lipped on further details.
