Local Teen Golfer Scores Dream Chance at Augusta National!

Local teen golfer to play at Augusta National, 14-year-old Jesus Bethencourt is realizing a dream shared by countless aspiring players. With each swing, he draws closer to a moment he has envisioned for years.

“It feels really good,” he reflects, his eyes shining with determination. “I’ve been working really hard for it. I’m out here every day.”

This enthusiastic athlete from Bonita Springs is set to compete in the prestigious Drive, Chip and Putt National Finals, a distinguished event that captures the spirit of golf.

Among the 80 elite golfers nationwide who qualified, Bethencourt’s presence stands as a testament to his commitment and burgeoning talent.

He views this opportunity as just the beginning, dreaming of what lies ahead. “I want to achieve all my goals,” he shares earnestly. “Like, win at Augusta. Win lots of tournaments and try to qualify for the US Junior Amateur this year.”

Jesus’s journey into golf began innocently as a toddler, but the past four years have been transformative. Focused and driven, he has committed himself to perfecting his game.

“I just practiced so hard, staying focused on winning,” he notes, illuminating the dedication behind his success.

His father, Jesus Bethencourt Sr., a seasoned golfer with five decades of experience, recognizes the natural gift his son possesses. “Oh, I’m very proud,” he beams, acknowledging his son’s passion and relentless dedication. “Just very proud.”

Across sunny afternoons and drizzly mornings, Jesus can be found at the local Bonita Springs Golf Club, diligently honing his skills. Each moment spent here, whether practicing his drives or perfecting his chip shots, is a step toward his ultimate goal of victory at Augusta.

Competing in the Drive, Chip and Putt National Finals at Augusta National, on a weekend that coincides with the highly anticipated Masters Tournament, is a dream come true for the young golfer. This hallowed ground holds stories of legends, and he dreams of writing his own. Rain or shine, his commitment never wavers. Although he seeks a win at Augusta, the journey itself defines him.

Randomly, it’s intriguing that Augusta National, where Jesus will perform, was founded in 1933 and is known for its iconic azaleas, illustrating the beauty of the sport. Here, the young athlete stands on the precipice of greatness, ready to leave his mark.
