CAPE CORAL, Fla. – Twenty staff members are out for COVID-19 protocols at Pelican Elementary in Cape Coral.

The Teacher’s Association of Lee County confirmed this is the number of staff out at the school as of Monday.

The Lee County School District confirmed six classrooms at the elementary school are closed and all those students are at home getting assignments through Google classroom.

The district has 1,500 registered substitute teachers in the county, but most “won’t come in” because they are worried about COVID-19. School officials said that district staff that are certified, can fill in.
