COLLIER COUNTY, Fla. – Collier County Commissioners unanimously approved a 400-unit apartment complex to be built in Golden Gate Estates.
The complex would be built off Immokalee Road near Randall Boulevard. Several people showed up to the meeting to speak against the complex.
“This is total devastation. Immokalee Road cannot handle this,” said Darlene Izzo who lives nearby.

Izzo said traffic in the morning is sometimes backed up miles. She worries more people moving in will make it worse.
“There’s no way the traffic can pass on this road and have this facility and the apartment complex go in there,” Izzo said.
To ease traffic on Immokalee Road, Commissioner William McDaniel said the county is starting a project to extend Vanderbilt Beach Road.
“Minimum 15 to 20 percent reduction in the existing traffic on Immokalee road,” McDaniel said.
McDaniel said construction on the Vanderbilt Beach Road project will begin this fall.
“Infrastructure is the key to success,” he said. “The largest impact on my residents’ quality of life is their capacity to move from a to b.”
