Driver critically injured in Charlotte County crash dies

CHARLOTTE COUNTY, Fla. – One of the drivers critically injured in a Charlotte County crash on October 13 has died, Florida Highway Patrol troopers confirmed.

The 87-year-old Rotunda West man driving a pickup truck was taken to the hospital after the crash on Sunnybrook Boulevard and Regina Drive. Troopers confirmed Thursday that he later died from his injuries.

A 20-year-old Punta Gorda man driving an SUV had minor injuries after the crash, according to FHP.

The SUV stopped facing west on Regina Drive, at the intersection of Sunnybrook, while the truck was going south on Sunnybrook Boulevard, troopers said.

The SUV went into the pickup truck driver’s path. The front of the truck hit the SUV.

The crash investigation is ongoing.
