FORT MYERS, Fla. – A driver was taken to the hospital after reaching speeds around 100 mph before crashing into a light pole on Ben Hill Griffin Parkway near Royal University Drive early Monday.

Just after midnight Sunday, a driver was clocked at 100 mph by an Airport Authority device before crashing into the pole and damaging two signs including a Culver’s sign and car wash sign, according to the Lee County Sheriff’s Office.

Debris was spotted scattered all over the roadway overnight.

The driver was taken to the hospital with leg injuries, officials said.

Deputies are continuing an investigation. This is a developing story.
