Fans already calling the Kyrie deal a mistake for the Mavericks

Kyrie Irving is one of the best players in the NBA and his recent blockbuster trade to the Dallas Mavericks has left many fans scratching their heads. Despite the blockbuster trade, NBA fans seem to be over the idea of Kyrie Irving as a true difference maker in the league.

In the latest SB Nation Reacts survey, more than three-fourths of NBA fans think the Mavericks will regret acquiring Irving. This is a surprising result, especially since the Mavericks gave up very little in the trade. They only had to give up Spencer Dinwiddie, Dorian Finney-Smith, and three picks that won’t come into play until 20227 at the earliest.

The lack of faith in Irving is even more surprising when you consider that the Mavericks are only on the hook to keep Irving through this year. This means that he is free to decide if he wants to stay in Dallas or go elsewhere this offseason.

Despite the lack of faith in Irving, the majority of fans still think the Nets “won” the trade, with just about a quarter of fans thinking it was the Mavericks who came out on top. But, the Lakers appear to have caught a stray simply by not being able to get Irving to his desired location.

The real question now is whether Irving will be able to prove the doubters wrong and make the Mavericks a true contender in the Western Conference. Only time will tell if Irving will be able to make a difference with the Mavericks and help them reach their ultimate goal of winning a championship.
