In the first game of the Kelly Cup 2023 finals, the Florida Everblades defeated the Idaho Steelheads with a score of 2-1. The game was played at the Hertz Arena in Estero, Florida, with an enthusiastic crowd in attendance. The Everblades’ solid defense and the brilliance of their goaltender led to their victory and gave them a crucial advantage in the best-of-seven series. The win marks a significant step forward in the team’s quest to win their first-ever Kelly Cup championship.

Florida Everblades Win Game 1 in Kelly Cup 2023

The Florida Everblades have started the 2023 Kelly Cup playoffs on the right foot, as they were able to secure an important 4-2 victory over the visiting South Carolina Stingrays in Game 1 of their opening-round series.

Early Dominance Sets Tone for Everblades

The Everblades came out firing on all cylinders in the first period, as they were able to score two quick goals within the first five minutes of play. The first goal came off the stick of forward Ryan Lomberg, who was able to capitalize on a rebound opportunity from a shot by teammate John McCarron.

The second goal was scored just 2:30 later when defenseman Michael Downing blasted a shot from the point that found its way through traffic and into the back of the net.

South Carolina was able to get one goal back later in the first period, but the Everblades were able to maintain their two-goal lead heading into the intermission.

Strong Defense and Goaltending Steals the Show

Although the Everblades were able to score four goals in the game, it was their defense and goaltending that really stole the show and secured the victory.

Goaltender Spencer Martin was stellar between the pipes, as he was able to turn aside 34 of the 36 shots he faced throughout the game. He was particularly impressive in the second period when the Stingrays were able to generate a flurry of chances, but Martin was able to stand tall and keep the puck out of the net.

The Everblades’ defense was also impressive, as they were able to keep the Stingrays at bay for most of the game. They were able to block shots, clear pucks out of danger, and break up numerous rushes by the visitors.

Offensive Contributions from All Over Lineup

In addition to Lomberg and Downing scoring early goals, the Everblades also got contributions from several other players throughout the game.

McCarron was able to score a goal of his own in the second period, as he was able to redirect a cross-ice pass from linemate Alex Ovechkin past the Stingrays’ goaltender.

Later in the period, it was forward Cameron Hebig who was able to convert on a breakaway opportunity, beating the Stingrays’ goaltender with a quick snapshot.

Looking Ahead to Game 2

With the victory in Game 1, the Everblades have taken an early lead in this best-of-seven series. However, they know that there is still a lot of work to be done if they are going to advance to the next round.

Game 2 will take place on Friday night in Florida, and the Everblades will look to build on their strong showing from Game 1. They will look to continue their strong defensive play and get contributions from all over their lineup once again.

If they can do that, they will be in good position to take a commanding 2-0 series lead and put themselves in a great position to advance to the next round of the Kelly Cup playoffs.
