FORT MYERS, Fla.– If you’re driving down the bridge to Fort Myers Beach, you’ll see new traffic lights on the corner of San Carlos and Estero Boulevard.

People were just crossing the street whenever they wanted to but now walkers and bikers will have to wait to cross the street using crosswalk traffic lights.

Most beach goers say this is a move in the right direction when it comes to traffic around the beach.

“It’s great because I drive down here every day and yeah sitting in the line on the bridge, that will probably be less, if everybody follows the rules and walks when they are supposed to,” said Stacy, a waitress at Bella Margarita Restaurant.

Fort Myers Beach Mayor Ray Murphy says this traffic signal is one of the many improvements coming to area.

The beach plans add more lights in the next couple of years, officials said.
