FORT MYERS BEACH, Fla. — People walking along Fort Myers Beach say Doug Brehm was a pirate. He liked to dress like one, lived on a boat, and his parrot, Misty, was always at his side.

But, he didn’t know how to swim.

On Sunday, around noon his friend Sam Boles said he was waiting on him to do laundry, but he never showed up.

Later that day, he heard that a body was floating in the water near the Matanzas Pass Bridge.

“I said what did he look like?  I said that has got to be him. I checked his boat and his boat was open, the bird was gone and he was gone, said Boles.

Boles said the body floating in the water was his friend, Doug.

His family said they are waiting for an autopsy to find out how Doug died.
