An unexpected development this week: The Top 5 singers are now the Top 4.
South Carolina’s Caleb Kennedy has left the competition after a controversial video surfaced on social media. The three-second video shows him sitting beside someone who appears to be wearing a Ku Klux Klan hood. Kennedy, now 16, has said he was 12 at the time.
Now only four singers will perform Sunday, according to “Idol.” And there will be just one elimination instead of the planned two.
For Sunday’s episode, Bishop and the rest of the Top 4 will be mentored by producer and singer-songwriter Finneas, brother to pop star Billie Eilish. They’ll also perform their new singles recorded with top producers.
Bishop, 16, of Estero landed in the show’s Top 5 singers on May 9 after performing Coldplay’s “Paradise” and Alanis Morissette’s “Ironic.” The rest of the Top 4 are Grace Kinstler, Chayce Beckham and Willie Spence.
“American Idol’s” finale airs May 23. The show airs at 8 p.m. Sundays.
