Immokalee man killed in fiery crash on SR 29 in Collier County

COLLIER COUNTY, Fla. — A 28-year-old Immokalee man was killed in a fiery crash on SR-29 in Collier County on Sunday.

The crash happened just north of I-75 around 4:30 p.m., according to Florida Highway Patrol.

A 58-year-old Naples man was driving an SUV in the wrong direction in the northbound lanes of SR-29. He swerved to avoid a head-on crash at the same time that the Immokalee man, who was driving north on SR-29, also swerved to avoid the crash.

The front left of the SUV collided with the front right of the Immokalee man’s car.

The 28-year-old man was pronounced dead on the scene after his car became engulfed in flames following the crash.

The Naples man and his passenger, a 60-year-old Naples woman, were taken to Broward General Hospital in critical condition.

The crash is under investigation.
