Lee County firefighters rescue child trapped in sewer pipe

FORT MYERS, Fla. – A young boy was rescued this week after he got stuck in a sewer pipe in Lee County.

South Trail firefighters responded to the scene after reports that a child playing on a stack of concrete sewer pipes had slipped and gotten his leg and foot stuck, according to South Trail Fire Protection & Rescue Services.

The incident happened in a construction zone at 5521 Seventh Avenuei n the Pine Manor neighborhood.

Firefighters with Iona McGregor Fire District and Lehigh Acres Fire Control and Rescue District also responded to the scene.

Rescue crews tried using water, lubricant, and other methods to free the boy before resorting to chiseling away at the concrete pipe, firefighters said.

The child was given ear muffs, safety goggles, and a blanket before crews got to work breaking apart the pipe.

In the end, the boy got out of the pipe safely with just a scrape on his knee, according to STFD.
