Major Gains for North Fort Myers Women’s Weightlifting Team

North Fort Myers High School’s Women’s Weightlifting Team has made significant gains this year, both individually and as a team. Their hard work and dedication have paid off, resulting in impressive achievements that have brought recognition to the program and motivation to the team members.

Heading 1: Team Accomplishments

The North Fort Myers Women’s Weightlifting Team won the District Championship in January, defeating strong opponents such as Fort Myers, Dunbar, and Riverdale. It was their second consecutive District Championship, and they did it with style, scoring 55 team points, 16 more than the runner-up team. The team also qualified twelve lifters for the Regionals, which was the most in the District.

At the Regionals, the team placed 4th overall, narrowly missing out on qualifying for the State Championship as a team. However, several lifters showed extraordinary performances and secured their spot in the State Championship. Senior Nina Crofts impressively won the 183-pound weight class by lifting 175 pounds in the bench press and 205 pounds in the clean and jerk. Junior Alyssa Langford also placed 2nd in the 101-pound weight class, with a total lift of 210 pounds.

Heading 2: Individual Achievements

Aside from the team accomplishments, several lifters made considerable gains in their personal records (PRs) this year. Freshman Ayanna Ivey set a school record in the 199-pound weight class, lifting a total of 390 pounds (180 pounds in bench press, and 210 pounds in clean and jerk). Senior Destiny Layfield broke her own school record in the 154-pound weight class, lifting a total of 310 pounds (150 pounds in bench press, and 160 pounds in clean and jerk).

Junior Alleigh Fuentes also set her PR by lifting a total of 320 pounds (150 pounds in bench press, and 170 pounds in clean and jerk) in the 139-pound weight class. Her teammate, sophomore Alyssa Koeslag, set her PR by lifting a total of 350 pounds (155 pounds in bench press, and 195 pounds in clean and jerk) in the 119-pound weight class.

Heading 3: The Future

The North Fort Myers Women’s Weightlifting Team has a bright future ahead, with several talented underclassmen and incoming freshmen joining the team. Head Coach Matt Cargill is optimistic about the team’s chances of winning another District Championship and qualifying more lifters for the State Championship next year.

The team’s success has also inspired younger girls in the school to take up weightlifting and join the team. The Women’s Weightlifting program has grown significantly in the past few years, with more girls realizing the benefits of strength training and competing in the sport. The team’s success has brought recognition to the school and the community, and has shown that girls can excel in traditionally male-dominated sports.

Heading 4: Conclusion

The North Fort Myers Women’s Weightlifting Team has made major gains this year, both as a team and individually. Their hard work, dedication, and perseverance have paid off, resulting in impressive accomplishments that have brought recognition to the program and motivation to the team members. The team’s success has also inspired younger girls to take up weightlifting and pursue their own goals in the sport. North Fort Myers has a bright future in women’s weightlifting, and we can expect to see more exciting achievements from the team in the years to come.
