MARCO ISLAND, Fla. – One Marco Island resident appealed to the city council to have their dock extended to house a 130-foot yacht.
The Marco Island Planning Board denied the dock extension in September. However, new documents show the resident is appealing to the city council. The appeal document said the applicant meets all of the city’s requirements and should have been approved by the board.
But several surrounding neighbors said the large yacht will block some of their views.
“I have my porch set up. That’s my best view,” said Stephanie Bowman.
Bowman just bought her house in June for the purpose of having a view she liked.
“Based upon staff’s review, the neighbors will maintain views of the Marco River,” A report from the director of Community Affairs reads. “However, certain views important to the neighbors could be partially obstructed.”
The appeal has not been put on the city council’s agenda for the council to have the final say.
