Sammy Hagar’s Secrets to a Joyful Marriage
Sammy Hagar was just given the key to the Las Vegas Strip, but the former Van Halen frontman also has the key to a successful marriage.
Hagar and Kari Karte will celebrate their 30th wedding anniversary next year, and the rocker says that amazing chemistry is the secret to their lasting romance.
Fun in the Bedroom: A Fundamental to Love
“We still have fun in the bedroom, I tell you that. You know what I mean? I always say that when you guys are sleeping in separate beds and stuff, well, that’s usually the end of it,” Hagar said, reflecting on the playful nature of their intimacy.
“It’s not just about that, you have to give and take and all that, but an undervalued thing in a relationship is the physical attraction, enjoying each other physically,” he added, emphasizing the importance of connection.
Keeping the Spark Alive in Everyday Life
“I don’t care if you’re wrestling or playing around, we wrestle. When my kids come over, we get into it on the floor mat—headlocks and all,” Hagar shared with a glint of nostalgia, showcasing that fun is a vital ingredient not just for couples, but for family moments as well.
“Being physical is a massive part of life. Keep it hot, and never try to dictate to a woman,” he concluded, laughter lingering in his tone.

Diverse Family Dynamics
Hagar and Karte tied the knot in 1995, sharing two daughters: Kama and Samantha. The musician also has sons, Aaron and Andrew, from his previous marriage to Betsy Berardi. The blend of families has added layers to Hagar’s life, creating a rich tapestry of relationships that continue to thrive.
A Milestone in Sin City
Recently, Hagar celebrated a significant milestone by receiving the key to the Las Vegas Strip. Through his decades of success, he has gathered a trove of memorable experiences. He draws amusing parallels between Sin City and Cabo San Lucas, Mexico.
“You know that saying of what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas? Well, I take it to Cabo as what happens in Cabo never happened. You don’t even have to admit it,” he remarked with a wink, his life lived in the roar of rock and roll and the buzz of nightlife.
The Transformation of a Rock Star
“I’m very tame now in my old age. I mean, I still act silly on stage, and my wife lets me get away with some things thanks to my ‘get out of jail free card’ when I’m performing,” Hagar reflected, revealing a man who understands the balance between fame and family. He seeks to avoid any embarrassment for his children, now grown and questioning his past.
“If there’s one thing everyone should do, it’s to show them they’re loved and to let them know they belong. They have to feel that there’s always a place for them with open arms,” he offered, words filled with warmth and understanding.
The artist believes that through love, his children can confidently navigate the world, rather than living in fear. Such reflections highlight the tenderness behind the tough exterior of rock and roll.
This Is the Life: Celebrating Success and Family
In addition to a loving home life, this Red Rocker has seen significant success in his multi-decade career, recently celebrating the 15th anniversary of his beloved Cabo Wabo Cantina. A place where fans gather to enjoy the vibe and taste the cuisine that Hagar loves so much.
“The most rewarding part of it (Cabo Wabo Cantina), is that my fans seem to love what I love. If I like a place or a certain kind of food, it seems they do too. We connect. I get along well with them Redheads.”
“So that’s been just the most rewarding thing that it worked. It’s been successful,” he concluded, satisfied with the journey that blends passion and business.
Having opened the first Cabo Wabo Cantina in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, in 1990, and extending his brand to Las Vegas and Hollywood, Hagar has relied on loyal friends like chef Tacho Kneeland, who has been by his side since day one.
“The only challenge in Las Vegas is it’s so expensive. The competition is fierce on that strip. If I told you how much rent is, you’d jump out of your skin,” he remarked, his humor returning in the face of reality, but it’s a small price to pay for the dreams he has built.
