LABELLE, Fla. – The Hendry County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) along with school officials have deemed a potential threat toward LaBelle Middle School as ‘not credible’ Friday afternoon.
Overnight HCSO was made aware of a Snapchat post allegedly threatening a shooting at what was initially believed to be LaBelle Middle School, investigators said.
HCSO increased law enforcement presence at the school while the investigation continued.
The threat was later deemed not credible by law enforcement and school officials, according to Superintendent of Hendry County Schools Michael Swindle.
Investigators said the threat originated in a different county and they do not believe it came from a Labelle Middle School student.
HCSO is continuing an investigation. Officials said no one is currently in custody in connection to the threat.
“We appreciate the community bringing any and all threats to our attention. We are committed to keeping students and staff safe, community engagement is a key component to everyone’s safety, ” Swindle said.
