COLLIER COUNTY, Fla.– Three human cases of the West Nile virus have now been found in Collier County, the Florida Department of Health (DOH-Collier) confirmed.

County officials issued a mosquito-borne illness alert on Thursday.

Collier residents are encouraged to continue to take precautions against mosquitoes by draining and covering. Here are some ways to protect yourself against getting bit:

  • Drain standing water to stop mosquitoes from multiplying
  • Cover skin with clothes or repellent
  • Cover doors and widows with screens to keep the bugs out of your house
